Keep in mind, we're not in Europe over here. Culture is a lot different.
We descended from Pilgrims and other religious people that left because they were persecuted for their beliefs, remember?

I live my life the way I want too. It makes me happy and keeps me healthy. Blood pressure is a cool 110/60 with a pulse rate of 66. I'm 6 foot with a weight of 180 ilbs. I'm gonna go with drinking and smoking would make it worse and I'm quite happy with how I look and how I feel.

I dont smoke, never have and NEVER will, its gross disgusting and very very rude to those who dont want to inhale it! (yes my father was a heavy smoker, and when I was a kid you would have been hard pressed to figure out who did the smoking if we had died and there was an autopsy!)
I dont drink really either ----I drank some in college, but that soon became unnecessary and I really dont like the taste of most alcohol either (I will still drink wine and a few 'sweet' alcohols like baileys...but thats pretty rare these days).
I too can boast a nice 114/80 blood pressure (dont think its got anything to do with the smoking or drinking ....more a family thing)....even though there is quite a long history of high blood pressure in my family (both mom and dad...and more than likely quite a few of the grands as welll---though they are all dead now)...I have siblings with the lower bp too.......though I guess as we age the numbers increase, so I am not looking forward to that one bit.
Smoking in the usa has been given a pretty negative connotation (with good reason) so its not quite as socially acceptable here anylonger, many states have (or are considering) no smoking in ANY public place (that INCLUDES restaurants), lots already have none in government buildings, schools and hospitals.....drinking, well doubt that will go out of style, but people are getting a bit more accepting of others who dont wish to, but want to hang out with those that do (the designated driver is what people will do so they can say they CANT drink since they are driving home).....

Yes well. Smoking is bad, after years of people thinking it was okay the truth is finally coming out. Now smoking isn't cool or sexy. Which is good.
My family has a history of high blood pressure.

My family were always as strong as oxes, or bulls,or a 10 ton truck... But Diabities is also here =(.. my grandmother and her grandmother both had it shame..
Regarding Smoking.. well i must say that i am very close wiht my true friends and all of us did it at some point, but then realized it aint worth it and pretty much stopped each for their own reason. My Polish Buddy works out at the Gym and he needs clean lungs for that, I am a swimmer and have half of my lung blocked by calsinated disease i had when i was little and smoking wouldnt help and my asian buddy has astma so he stopped as well.
BUT regarding drinking . No way we are stopping that.. Whine Brendy,Scotch,Vodka, Beer, "Lady drinks" mixes, you name it we all got it and tasted it. Even though we drink only on occasions or on our wekcly saturday get togethers but its usually small BBQ with couple of beers lots of chit-chatting and a playfull puppy to make us laugh...
Alcohol is not your enemy, if you make it your friend =)

Smoking is just nasty.
My friend's mom had him at like 17, and now he lives with his great grandparents in the country (not far from where I am, mind you).
They are about 70 something I think, drink and smoke so much, he cant stand it. He says he will never smoke nor drink because of that. They are also filthy dirty, and the house is just fricken NASTY. They are good people though
